Photo Contest Winner // March 11, 2008

The planning committee for Hockey Day in Winkler recently held a photo contest to commemorate the event. Here is the overall winning photo by Rick Hiebert of Winkler, winner in the professional category. The photo is entitled “Lights, Camera, Action” and encompasses everything about CBC’s Hockey Day in Canada including the cameras and lights for the television crews, plus a youngster on skates.

Club Chair Giveaway // February 19, 2008

From now, until March 22, the Real Canadian Superstore is giving you two chances to win some very special memorabilia from Hockey Day in Winkler which was held Feb 7-9, 2008.

Superstore has two Club Chairs with the autographs of Ron MacLean, Kelly Hrudey, Dick Irvin and Scott Morrison on them. Dustin Penner has also agreed to sign the chairs when he returns to Winkler for a visit in the summer. For your chance to win a chair…place a bid in the silent auction or purchase a $2 raffle ticket. All proceeds will go to the President’s Club Children’s Charity.

Hockey Day in Canada, Winkler 2008 Merchandise will be on sale for a limited time at Winkler City Hall, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. For sales out of the local area, call (204) 325-5600 and be prepared to pay with a credit card.

CBC'S HOCKEY DAY IN CANADA eighth annual broadcast, presented by Tim Hortons, drops the puck on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 12 noon ET, as host Ron MacLean tells the story of the sport that unites us all, live from Winkler, Man. Dustin Penner to Kick Off HDIC in Winkler!

Three weeks and counting until Canada’s hockey holiday! The eighth annual CBC’S HOCKEY DAY IN CANADA celebration, presented by Tim Hortons, hits the ice Saturday, Feb. 9, at 12 noon ET. Ron MacLean, alongside Don Cherry, Cassie Campbell, Scott Morrison and Dick Irvin, will go rinkside, live from the Winkler Recreation Complex in Winkler, Man.—hometown of Edmonton Oilers forward Dustin Penner. And, to kick off the festivities in perfect fashion, Penner will make a special visit to his beloved hometown, courtesy of the Oilers, on Thursday, Feb. 7. Read More...

Hockey Day in Canada is coming to Winkler, February 9 and we are celebrating! Get in the game with CBC Manitoba’s Growing Up Hockey Contest. Tell us your favourite hockey memory by calling 788-0893 or at www.cbc.ca/manitoba. Tune in to see if we use them on the air.

Watch CBC News at Six and listen to CBC Radio One 89.3 FM for more chances to win, including a grand prize trip for two to see the Maple Leafs play in Toronto.
